Al Nather

Al Nather, (Mohammad Masrouji), is a flautist, percussionist, vocalist and producer based in Ramallah. As a producer, Al Nather focuses on sampling but his occasional completely original works of art are not found lacking. He constitutes a part of a hip hop crew based also in Ramallah called Saleb 1. He has produced for many artists including Edd Abbas who is part of Fareeq el Atrache (Lebanon), El Rass (Lebanon), Abyusif (Egypt) and Bu Kulthoum (Syria). His influences range from classical Arabic music to extremely experimental works.

At the beginning of 2015 he has produced an EP consists of only instrumental pieces entitled: " Razz 'al Ghazz".

The album was inspired by events that happened in the summer of 2014 .

He recently worked as  producer to the realization of the first solo album of Bu
Kulthoum  , Syrian rapper, titled "Inderal".

ARAB TUNES presents : " Greetings from Ramallah Mixtape"

Mixtape dedicated to the rap scene in Ramallah, one of the most exciting, interesting and creative of the contemporary Arab world.
Keep up guys !!

Ahmad Shehadeh/ Kazz (March 21st, 1992) is a poet and rapper who originates from Palestine but resides in Jordan. He is one of the founders of Torabyeh’s project. He was born in 1992 in Saudi-Arabia. He is mostly known for his video song Ghorbeh. Kazz is one of the founders of the creation of an alternative, radical and liberating music that speaks on behalf and truthfully reflects the streets. He worked on Torabyeh’s project, which includes producing its first album (Bonyeh Ta7teyeh) and then a mix tape including the song Ghorbeh. He participated in many workshops and projects. Mostly notably is a project known Sentences on the banks and other activities, and many others. which held place in Darat al Funun. Currently, he is working on a solo project called Kazz AlOmam.

Kazz AlOmam: is an artistic, philosophical and simplistic project that sees more powerful words than riffles as a resisting tool. It depends on a symbolic poetry style in order to highlight its importance in literature as a social and thinking aspect, which rebels from different issues in somewhat a latent way. Also, it’s a project that is a bit distant from reality and its social and political issues, instead it seeks fantasy in which symbols represent the rational meanings and emotions, seeking an unknown ideal world in order to fulfill the spiritual emptiness that it does not posses.

On June 2, 2013, released "Athar alGhorab" the first album of the project Kazz al Oman

Osloob, from the Palestinian rap group Katibe 5, has brought together rap artists from all corners of the Arab world to create the groundbreaking Fasl (Separation).

From across the Arab world, the album has gathered together rap singers, musicians, poets, and vocalists in a piece of work that “breaks geographical boundaries” and unites the shared and individual thoughts, frustrations, and dreams of young Arabs.

The album was released on YouTube and Facebook so as to make it easily accessible and to circumvent the commerciality of the music industry.

The album was produced and composed by “Osloob” (Amr), one of the members of Katibe 5, who first entered the rap arena 14 years ago.

He is now expanding his work to collaborate with singers and musicians in various regions of Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria.

In an underground studio close to the Burj al-Barajne refugee camp, Amr sits amid posters of Che Guevara, Bob Marley, Abu Ammar, and Dalal Mughrabi and her comrades.
There, he spent six months recording the initial layer of the rap album. He then sent the music that he composed to the artists, and they in turn recorded their own words over the music.

The album turned out to be one continuous track, where each participating artist raps their contribution to the album. The lyrics and style vary according to the particular concerns of each artist.

“Our ability to communicate with one another is legendary,” says Amr, who sees the album as a force that breaks down boundaries and borders.

He adds that a “Jerusalemite” (Fadi Taweel) from the band Ijtiyah played a major role in bringing the various artists together by communicating with rappers in Gaza, Ramallah, Amman, and Irbid.

“A rapper has something that he needs to say or a story that he wants to tell. It is not merely singing,” Amr insists.

He notes that the Arab region is witnessing serious and mature attempts at rap “that are not just using simplistic rhymes and do not use empty phrases or words in order to fill gaps.”

He believes that the revolutions and protests that some Arab countries are witnessing have inspired many rappers and have given rise to a new generation of artists. He adds, “however, the Arab world is still slow to absorb rap.”

A few Arab rappers have succeeded in bringing this genre closer to the people and Arabizing it through their mastery of the language, which is not an easy task.

It is just as hard, he notes, to introduce the sounds of local instruments in order to add a flavor of the region to the music.

Successful and honest attempts in Arabic rap have emerged from the heart of deprived neighborhoods in various parts of the Arab world. These are neighborhoods that resemble those where rap emerged in the US, and later in Europe.

In Fasl, Katibe 5’s Shahed Ayan opens with: “You commit a crime called struggle, your name is placed on an assassination list/guilty of resisting occupation, guilty of bearing arms, of waging a battle of existence, guilty of existence.”

He is then followed by one rapper after the other, each one presenting the story of their neighborhood, homeland, and other concerns.

The participants are: Turabiya (Rasasa and Kaz – Jordan), Ijtiyah (Maqdisi and Watan – Jerusalem), Katibe 5 (Shahed Ayan, Abdel Jabbar, and Osloob – Beirut), and I-Voice (Palestine), in addition to Rami Jabine (Ramallah), Khaled Marara and Mohammad Antar (Gaza), Edward (from Fareeq al-Atrash – Beirut), Rayess Bek (Beirut), and Sati (Jordan).

The large number of rap artists participating in Fasl bring out a wide range of concerns from every region of the Arab world. But the rappers featured unanimously agree on one central issue – the Palestinian cause.

Torabyeh

Torabyeh An Amman based alternative art’s group, Torabyeh is commited to pioneering a much needed art’s revolution in Amman. They communicate their messages of revolt through text, sound and image. Rap, hip-hop and rebellious lyrics against the background of traditional Arab music creates a unique new genre of sound to Arab music.

Torabyeh reflect the disgraceful reality and without feelings of sympathy towards anything or anyone. Alienation, indifference, anger and the sense of injustice are delivered through hip-hop music video, which hits us hard in the stomach, mainly reflecting the aggressive message and no compromise for Palestinian refugees in Jordan.

Members of Torabyeh: Firas Shehadeh, Ahmed Shehadeh (MC Kazz), Saed
Masannat (DJ Voinic) , spiro mukurker (MC Rasasah)

 Ghorbah     (Weird )  -   lyrics

Spiro Mukurker (MC Rasasah)

"My status is deformed because of my art
My poetry for my people is meaningless
My departure from earth is only a matter of time
The good I do on earth is not to gain blessings from the heavens
I just want a place where I can secure my son's rights
I am not a killer but I can commit a crime to protect my rights
For my country my pen is writing for me
I don't want an Israeli soldier to stop me from being buried in my country
I want to be buried in the same graveyard my grandfather is in
Ever since I was young I dreamt of being a soldier
With time I discovered whom I belong to
Mahmoud Abbas, Fatah, Hamas or Jabha
Let me be free because they are all mercenaries
I can no longer deal with these people living a lie
The picture is nice but the background is destroyed
Now we need a visa to enter our own country?
It seems the people are distracted with the revolutions
They forgot Iraq and they forgot Shatila & Sabra
I refuse to be some regular human being
And what's available in Amman in its best cases is bare
So why don't I belong to a free revolution
Where the employer and employee are the same status
Rasasah; stay calm!
How can I when all the Israelis are reserve soldiers "

Hussam Abed (CHORUS)

"Could it be that we have reached to this point?
Our country needs her men, she has become a widower
It's time to stand up
Ziad Rahbani tell them who's the non-believer "

Ahmed Shehadeh (MC Kazz)

"I am packing my things getting ready to leave
From Amman to a place with no moonlight
All desert...all alcohol...with only a few trees
So I can feed myself from you mother nature
With your fast growth ...you are never satisfied
Because they are always cutting you down...I will protect you
From all of those non-believers
My grandfather had an orchard and he always protected you
But when the sons of bitches occupied the land they stole you
And my grandfather lived and died dreaming of you
Now I come to you to share my pain
Because I felt that me and you are the same
The projects in Amman are throwing us around
Mother nature hold me and return me back inside you
Because all this construction above you is adding to my pain
I wish I was a gypsy going from tent to tent
Because my place in this society has no worth
I don't feel well, I feel like shit
We've been fucked a thousand times and we're still going backwards
After what has happened and what will happen
The fate is the same; murdered or captured
I am like all of those who life threw to the gutter
Deprived from happiness and sentenced to fade away
The only difference is that I am supported by rhythm"

Hussam Abed (CHORUS)

"Could it be that we have reached to this point?
Our country needs her men, she has become a widower
It's time to stand up "
Ziad Rahbani tell them who's the non-believer"
