Lakdam

The Lakdam group was born in the town of Inezgane in September 1972. In its first incarnation the group was composed of Mohamed Bayri, the brothers Hassan and Brahim Rabila (better known Rabbah), Mohammed El Hanafi, Echcharâi El Houcine and Balla Ahmed.

With this line-up the group took its first steps by performing songs by the group Jil Jilala, the group's first source of inspiration, adopting the name "Anwar Souss" but soon had to change it due to the presence of a cultural association of Agadir that adopted the same name .

In early 1973, two other members joined the training: Abdelaziz Chamkh and Larbi Baybane, and the group thus formed will begin to work on the creation of its first original songs in Tachelit, the Berber language adopted in the Souss area.

In 1974 the group performed at the popular music festival organized by the Inezgane youth center in the Hay El Hassani neighborhood in Agadir. All the participating groups would have adopted the Arabic language in their tracks and the members of the group suffered many pressures to do the same but remained firm on their positions. Once the curtain lifted, the Agadir audience made the acquaintance of a new musical style that would have spread enormously in the years to come; in fact that evening the Tazenzart style was publicly born.

The spectators liked the novelty very much and asked the group to extend their performance. The organizers of the event gave Lakdam the victory of the festival.

After this first success the group began preparations for the recording of its first album continuing to perform in public. Among the most significant events in which Lakdam took part was the exhibition in Taghazoute (a village 16km north of Agadir), on the occasion of the presentation of the book by the Moroccan artist Omar Amarir dedicated to the Amazigh poem.
Meanwhile the recording of the disc was delayed and the group was faced with a series of problems that will undermine the path.

Rabbah decided to leave due to disagreements with the other components. Part of the remaining musicians will give life to a new formation which will be called Izenzaren and will adopt the entire repertoire of Lakdam. Not even a month after the birth of Izenzaren will a new split occur and a new group called Inmoudda will be born. And here Rabbah returns to the scene who will reform the Lakdam group together with his friend Balla Ahmed.

So for a while we find ourselves in the presence of three distinct formations (Lakdam, Izenzaren and Inmoudda) with the only Mohammed El Hanafi present in all three.

Great was the astonishment when Rabbah found himself listening to the group's songs played by the Izenzaren group on the Agadir radio station. The first album of the new band had just been released and was composed largely of songs belonging to Lakdam's repertoire. To protect the rest of the work Rabbah and his companions proceeded to make an album by adding new titles, but now the damage was done and part of the old repertoire will be known from then on as the work of Izenzaren.

In 1979 the Inmoudda group will merge with Lakdam and an album will be printed for the sawt el mâarif label.

Although the Izenzaren group is credited as the inventor of the Tazenzart style on various articles, the reality is quite different. To look for the origin of the new music coming from the Souss is towards the Lakdam band that we must look and it is right to pay due recognition. to musicians such as Hassan Rabila, Rabbah and Mohamed Bayri .

As said years later Abdelaziz Chamkh interviewed on French television: "If Lakdam had not been there, the Izenzaren group would never have existed"

Come disse anni dopo Abdelaziz
