Asilah 80 - Peter Lemer Avec La Troupe Populaire De G'naoua De Asilah Au Théatre Al Kamra à Asilah

In the period between the 60s and the 70s some famous western musicians came into contact with the Arab and North African culture (two very different things) and were fascinated by it. The results of these meetings are well known. The best known albums in this context are definitely those of Brian Jones and Ornette Coleman who, with a couple of truly incredible records ("Brian Jones Plays With The Pipes Of Pan At Joujouka" from 1971 and "Dancing In Your Head" from 1977), brought the attention of the western public to the art of the musicians of Joujouka, an almost mythological village located on the heights of the Moroccan Rif .Equally well-known are the contaminations with the Arabic sounds of the German group Embryo who created truly fascinating albums in Morocco as fascinating is the album by Peter Lemer in the company of the Troupe Populaire De G'naoua of Asilah entitled "Asilah 80", the album that I propose here.

Peter Lemer is a British jazz musician who started his musical activity in 1965. Pianist, double bass player and composer contributed, with his Peter Lemer Quintet, to the development of the British free jazz movement between the 60s and the 70s. For most of his career he was a keyboard player and in this capacity he participated in the late 1970s at the Moussem music festival in Asilah. His positive experience leads him back to Morocco at other times. In 1980 he gets to know the Gnawa musical culture through the community present in Asilah and invites some musicians belonging to it to perform with him. The result is the recordings merged into this album that his friend Nick Griffiths has fortunately documented and the Association Culturelle Al-Mouhit has published.

The music contained in this record is really special. More than a merger, there is a real collision. A real sound magma. There is no dominant sound but two musical modes that chase and meet. It is really difficult to explain this album. I invite you to listen to it because it has good moments. I am happy to have discovered its existence and for this I have to thank my friend Stefano who kindly reported it to me

For those interested, the original album still seems to be available on Peter Lemer's website.

  2. Hi Tim. I knew you would appreciate it. I had never heard of this album either. A friend of mine pointed it out to me, asking me precisely if I knew him. it is a particular record. I don't usually like the synthesizer very much but I like the overall vibe of the record.

  4. Please everyone should be careful and stop being deceived by all these brokers and account managers, they scammed me over $50,000 of my investment capital, they kept on requesting for extra funds before a withdrawal request can be accepted and processed, in the end, I lost all my money. All efforts to reach out to their customer support desk had declined, I found it very hard to move on. God so kind I followed a broadcast that teaches on how scammed victims can recover their fund, I contacted the email provided for consultation, I got feedback after some hours and I was asked to provide all legal details concerning my investment, I did exactly what they instructed me to do without delay, to my greatest surprise I was able to recover my money back including my profit which my capital generated. I said I will not hold this to myself but share it to the public so that all scammed victims can get their funds back. Direct Call Phone Number and WhatsApp contact: +1 (519) 398-1460
